a rustic vase…

Who says you need to put your flowers into vases as this beautiful display on bridal snob shows you. Simply use balls of twine, like a rough woven thread for the perfect rustic alternative to a vase. You could even change up the colour for a more fun take on this to complement your flowers but I love this one as it is so simple yet so effective. I’d suggest clustering a couple together for each table and make sure you keep a mix of short and tall flowers to get a bit of height in your display – perfect for a country style wedding!

Take a trip down the rabbit hole with an Alice in Wonderland inspired wedding. These gorgeous pictures show just how to take your favourite storybook and turn it into an eclectic wedding with some cool twists. Either take a retro approach with a white, red and black colour scheme using the ‘queen of hearts’ as your inspiration or just go for Alice inspired details like pale blue bridesmaid dresses, mix and match teacups and saucers and eat and drink me tags like these adorable ones pictured above. After the success of Black Swan last year and fashion designers like Chloe featuring ballet inspired clothing on their catwalks, ballet has experienced a resurgence in popularity while the beautiful blush tones and romance of ballet are the perfect backdrop for a wedding. Monique Lhuillier and Vera Wang are the place to go for romantic big gowns while these pink satin shoes from bhldn would be the perfect compliment to your dress or if you’re not keen on heels go for a simple pair of satin ballet pumps.

Keep the colour scheme pale with shades of blush, pale pink and cream and maybe a hint of metallic. Check out Martha Stewart Weddings for some great favour ideas like these knotted marshmallows or cake pops which double up as place settings and favours.

With the last few days of summer fading fast I thought I’d share these pastel delights which if you’re planning a wedding for next summer are the perfect inspiration. Soft sorbet shades in mint, peach, baby pink and blue add a whimsical feel and fits perfectly with the vintage teaparty or english fete style wedding that are so popular for summer.

Retro dresses for your bridesmaids – each in a different pastel hue, pretty tablecloths, vintage bunting and a table set with vintage china – check out The English Tea Party , all create the perfect summer wedding.

emerald, aqua and cream…

Whoever said blue and green don’t mix only have to take a look at the gorgeous colour combo. Emerald and cream is cited as a popular choice of colour at weddings this year but for a fresh take why not add in aqua which balances the deep emerald hue. I particularly love the mix and match hued ties for the grooms which would look gorgeous with a grey suit. According to my gran, wearing green at a wedding is considered bad luck but I think emerald green bridesmaid dresses would look so stunning with cream bouquets. And just look at these cute mini cakes from Martha Stewart Wedding that illustrate just how well this colour scheme works.

In the fashion world, one of the popular colours for autumn this year is orange. It’s the perfect antidote to the grey wintry weather as its fun and vibrant and would be a beautiful colour choice for a fall wedding. Mix a variety of shades from tangerine, burnt orange, vermillion or melon with white or complement it with an equally bright colour like pink, purple or turquoise which is well suited a tropical summer inspired wedding.

While most of your guests will be happy sipping prosecco or wine, make sure you don’t forget about the guests who don’t drink alcohol. Serve them up something more exciting than soft drinks and water, and why not try lemonade as a refreshing alternative.

These vintage inspired serving ideas would be a great way to display lemonade at the reception. Choose pink or plain, and serve them in glass jars or large glass drink dispensers. Try visiting vintage hire shops like Savoir Weddings or Vintage Style Hire  to source props  like these for your wedding.

With the famous Nottinghill carnival just around the corner I am loving these wonderfully fun, eclectic and bright carnival inspired weddings. It is such a whimsical theme and perfect for a summer wedding. To capture the spirit of a carnival it’s all in the details for these weddings from mini candy floss desserts, balloons, bunting, vintage style ticket stands and photo booths and a retro candy buffet. Check out this wedding designed by planners Amorology as featured on Green Wedding Shoes or this one for some fab inspiration.

pretty in pink…

Today’s post comes a little later than planned unfortunately but it’s been a rather busy old week for me. On this wonderfully warm evening in London I find myself in awe of this deliciously girly pink wedding reception. When you first hear the words pink colour scheme I must admit that my initial reaction is that it will be all too saccharine for my taste, however this wedding has managed to make it incredibly elegant and feminine. The use of multiple shades of pink from blush to rose, salmon and cerise keeps it from being too matchy-matchy while details like the transparent pink chairs keeps it modern. The styling of the different heights of rose centrepieces adds glamour so you avoid the pitfall of it being a bit twee. Simply stunning!

table ideas: hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are a favourite choice of flower for weddings but you tend to see them used more commonly in low level displays and for bridal bouquets which makes this floral display all the more striking. The mix of blue, white and green hydrangeas are arranged so we can appreciate their full bloom and height at three levels in tall glass vases while the combination of tall and short candles make sure that it has an almost ethereal quality making it perfect for an evening wedding.
