There is nothing cuter than polka dots so why not consider opting for a polka dot themed wedding. It’s retro, fun yet still elegant and puts your own personal touch on the day. Go for full on polka dot glamour by adding it to the invitations, cake and tablecloths and the blue polka dot shoes from bhldn will have your ‘something blue’ covered!

If you’re not keen on adding polka dots in colour, then look to these beautiful dresses and veils with subtle white on white polka dots.  And monochrome is always a chic colour scheme for a wedding and this black and white polka dot cocktail dress would be a gorgeous choice for your bridesmaids.

cart wheels in my mind & save the date

With the famous Nottinghill carnival just around the corner I am loving these wonderfully fun, eclectic and bright carnival inspired weddings. It is such a whimsical theme and perfect for a summer wedding. To capture the spirit of a carnival it’s all in the details for these weddings from mini candy floss desserts, balloons, bunting, vintage style ticket stands and photo booths and a retro candy buffet. Check out this wedding designed by planners Amorology as featured on Green Wedding Shoes or this one for some fab inspiration.

sugalily stationery…

July 31, 2011

Years ago I worked on the PR for a small start-up stationery company, Sugalily. Nowadays they are still going strong producing beautiful, quirky and bespoke hand finished stationery for parties and weddings as well as greetings cards. The House of Sugalily is headed up by Abbey Warner, a Derby and London based designer who is inspired by all things retro and vintage. The wedding side of the business, sweetly named ‘Borrowed & Blue’ specialises in both ‘off the peg’ and bespoke designs and each range includes everything from save the date to order of service, menu, seating plan and thank you cards.

Each range is so unique with pretty finishing touches like pearls and ribbons and the text and colour schemes can be personalised which all adds an extra special charm to your wedding. A personal favourite is the Liberty collection, a vintage postcard style of stationery in pastel pinks and blues or the Matilda collection which takes its inspiration from vintage playing cards with a focus on a monochrome colour scheme and typography.
