the colour of royalty…

Purple has long been a popular choice of colour for a wedding and while it is most commonly associated with royalty, when used in a wedding it symbolises passion, wisdom and happiness. I think purple, especially darker shades of purple look beautiful contrasted against bright shades of green. It’s also a really flattering colour that suits most complexions so you won’t need to worry about finding a colour to suit all your bridesmaids. In fact, soft shades of lilac have proved a popular choice for brides with some even opting for a wedding dress in this shade – a great example is Sophia Coppola’s wedding dress which is perfect for a more informal and relaxed wedding.

The fairytale wedding of Blair and her prince finally took place (in the UK!) after months of build-up and of course the only wedding designer that was fit to design the dresses was Vera Wang. With a colour scheme of pink and black, Serena wore a stunning floor length Vera Wang Spring 2011 blush pink gown while the other three bridesmaids wore dresses from the more attainable collection ‘White by Vera Wang’ at David’s Bridal. The stylish dress features beautiful organza roses and is available in other colourways including the pale pink as seen on Gossip Girl. Do you like this look?

Isn’t this wedding table simply stunning. This is a really dramatic look and I can imagine it in a large ballroom perfectly suited to a sophisticated city wedding like London or New York. The cascading glass baubles will create a magical quality to your wedding especially as the evening in and the light catches them. This is definitely a look for the bride looking to make statement like say the recently married Kim Kardashian but only classier!

The recently married Prince and Princess of Monaco spent a few nights of their honeymoon at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga, a short drive from central Durban on the eastern coast of South Africa. For years this historic hotel, built in 1869, with its iconic lighthouse was relegated as tired, old seaside hotel which despite its history was more than a little bit tacky. However after an extensive re-build it re-opened in 2009 and is now considered to be one of the places to stay in Durban.

Retaining its colonial charm,  this elegant mediterranean style hotel with stunning views of the Indian ocean is perfect for a romantic wedding or relaxing honeymoon. Weddings can be held in the beautiful gardens or the Pearl Room with views of the ocean while honeymooners can stay in one of the charming 86 rooms or luxurious suites. It’s the perfect place to relax, with a choice of infinity pool or why not sun yourself on the beach or enjoy a pampering session at the new world class spa.

Most brides go for traditional colours such as white, ivory, cream or champagne but a new colour is emerging as popular choice for brides – pink! While a pink wedding dress may send shivers down your spine with images of Jordan’s pink monstrosity at her wedding many years back, but there is a way to make it soft, feminine and elegant. Look to the recently married Reese Witherspoon for inspiration in her stunning custom blush pink Monique Lhuillier wedding dress while Leann Rimes also wore a blush coloured dress by Reem Acra at her recent wedding to Eddie Cibrian. While who can forget the incredible pink and white silk faille gown designed by John Galliano for Gwen Stefani at her wedding which she recently donated to the Victoria and Albert museum.

second time around…

A great way to gain inspiration for your wedding is to look to your favourite celebrity. While some aspects may be a bit ott or simply out of reach for the everyday bride, you can get some great ideas especially when it comes to the fashion. With so many recent fabulous weddings like Kate Middleton, Kate Moss and Charlene Wittstock – now Princess of Monaco; I’m sure we’ll be seeing many vintage and lace inspired numbers on brides in the near future.

The latest celebrity nuptials rumoured to be happening later this year according to this week’s grazia is Jennifer Aniston. If this is true what do we think she’ll wear second time round? Last time, according to celebrity bride guide, she wore a stunning Lawrence Steele halter neck silk and satin wedding gown with her hair in soft loose waves – the epitome of california cool. This time perhaps she’ll go for something like this sexy draped number by alberta ferretti or this simple yet stunning bow back silk dress by valentino, a favourite go to designer who she famously wore at the vanity fair post oscar party. Second time wedding dresses are tricky as you still want to feel special but perhaps don’t want to go too over the top so dresses like these strike the perfect balance. Then again, why not throw caution into the wind and wear whatever makes you feel fabulous. If the rumours of Jennifer Aniston’s wedding are true I only hope we get more photos of the dress than we did last time round…
