the colour of royalty…

Purple has long been a popular choice of colour for a wedding and while it is most commonly associated with royalty, when used in a wedding it symbolises passion, wisdom and happiness. I think purple, especially darker shades of purple look beautiful contrasted against bright shades of green. It’s also a really flattering colour that suits most complexions so you won’t need to worry about finding a colour to suit all your bridesmaids. In fact, soft shades of lilac have proved a popular choice for brides with some even opting for a wedding dress in this shade – a great example is Sophia Coppola’s wedding dress which is perfect for a more informal and relaxed wedding.

There is nothing cuter than polka dots so why not consider opting for a polka dot themed wedding. It’s retro, fun yet still elegant and puts your own personal touch on the day. Go for full on polka dot glamour by adding it to the invitations, cake and tablecloths and the blue polka dot shoes from bhldn will have your ‘something blue’ covered!

If you’re not keen on adding polka dots in colour, then look to these beautiful dresses and veils with subtle white on white polka dots.  And monochrome is always a chic colour scheme for a wedding and this black and white polka dot cocktail dress would be a gorgeous choice for your bridesmaids.

The fairytale wedding of Blair and her prince finally took place (in the UK!) after months of build-up and of course the only wedding designer that was fit to design the dresses was Vera Wang. With a colour scheme of pink and black, Serena wore a stunning floor length Vera Wang Spring 2011 blush pink gown while the other three bridesmaids wore dresses from the more attainable collection ‘White by Vera Wang’ at David’s Bridal. The stylish dress features beautiful organza roses and is available in other colourways including the pale pink as seen on Gossip Girl. Do you like this look?

So the bride has her dress, the suits for the groom and his men have been ordered, so now its time to find dresses for me and the other bridesmaid. We’re still not sure what we’ll be wearing but the options are endless – maxi or short, formal or relaxed, modern or vintage? If you’re shopping for bridesmaid dresses, the high street has some great options including Monsoon and Coast or why not visit the wedding boutique at Net-a-Porter or check out online favourite Dessy for every colour of bridesmaid dress you can imagine.

Red is often seen as a really dramatic colour for a wedding especially as it is often mixed with black or white but why not lighten it up and go for poppy red complemented with blush pink and aqua. I love this colour mix and the perfect excuse to carry a beautiful bouquet of poppies!
