the colour of royalty…

Purple has long been a popular choice of colour for a wedding and while it is most commonly associated with royalty, when used in a wedding it symbolises passion, wisdom and happiness. I think purple, especially darker shades of purple look beautiful contrasted against bright shades of green. It’s also a really flattering colour that suits most complexions so you won’t need to worry about finding a colour to suit all your bridesmaids. In fact, soft shades of lilac have proved a popular choice for brides with some even opting for a wedding dress in this shade – a great example is Sophia Coppola’s wedding dress which is perfect for a more informal and relaxed wedding.

pretty peonies…

I adore peonies and whenever I see them it makes me think how romantic these full soft blooms are and how perfect they are for a bridal bouquet or within a table setting. These gorgeous flowers are a very popular choice for weddings as they mean ‘happy life’ and ‘happy marriage.’

Peonies are one of the more expensive choices of flower so if a bouquet full of them is out of the question, don’t worry as they complement other smaller flowers beautifully. Peonies come in a wide range of colours from the classic white and pale pink to vibrant fuchsia and coral –  simply mix with greenery, roses or tulips for a stylish bouquet.

Blue hydrangeas are a popular choice of flower for weddings so why not extend this gorgeous flower and colour scheme to your cake. These cupcakes I found on Glorious Treats are amazing with their intricate petal details and this techique could be applied to a whole cake as well, if you didn’t fancy cupcakes for your wedding. Can you imagine what a beautiful centrepiece a cake like this would make?

I know Christmas has been and gone but if you recently got engaged and are thinking of a winter wedding, some of these ideas might help to convince you how romantic it could be. Opt for berries and greenery in your floral arrangements and give your wedding a rich colour scheme of red and green or go with wintery whites and silver for a romantic winter wonderland feel. And I simply love the idea from Etsy of the wedding invite or perhaps table setting in the form of a Christmas bauble.

happy new year…

Happy New Year to everyone! I know it has been a while since I have posted but in the time I have been away so much has been happening with the planning of my friend’s wedding. It’s now only five months until the big day and we’ve booked the hen weekend and had the first dress fitting, got the shoes and I received my invitation – which is gorgeous.

I thought this unusual bouquet was a nice departure from the norm and particularly fitting as I’ve recently returned from a holiday back home in South Africa. This flower is a Protea, the national flower of South Africa and it actually makes a rather nice and unique bouquet, especially when softened with the greenery.

Red is often seen as a really dramatic colour for a wedding especially as it is often mixed with black or white but why not lighten it up and go for poppy red complemented with blush pink and aqua. I love this colour mix and the perfect excuse to carry a beautiful bouquet of poppies!

it’s a fall wedding…

Over this weekend there has been a definite shift in temperature and a feeling that autumn is well and truly on its way. With this in mind I was inspired by the idea of a fall wedding and as Halloween is round the corner as well why not bear this in mind when planning your wedding.

A colour scheme of rust, orange, cream and gold with possible accents of greenery or charcoal will look gorgeous and why not turn pumpkins into your biggest accessory from vases on your table or decorate the chairs or pews with mini pumpkin floral arrangements.  The candied apples are  cute idea for dessert while the pumpkin cake toppers or simply a traditional American dessert like pumpkin pie would go down a treat.
